MOULTRIE, Ga. (WALB) - As schools across southwest Georgia begin rapidly adopting online and distance learning, United Way is also providing virtual education.

In light of the coronavirus, United Way’s Character Playbook now has digital learning.

K-12 grade students can engage in game-based lessons and other instructions to help build relationships and mental wellness.

Caroline Horne, the CEO of United Way in Colquitt County, said she believes this is an ideal time for students to focus on their mental well-being.

“It just gives them something to do that’s not here strictly literacy and math. It’s more, some of them are like, ‘This is how we are with our friends and here’s how working out can help you to be a happier person,’" explained Caroline.

Colquitt County School Nutrition is not responsible nor held liable for the quality or safe handling practices of the meals once distributed to individuals. Safety guidelines will be included with each meal served.

“After much thought and detailed planning, it was decided that the USDA Multiple Day Meal Plan would work best for students and Colquitt County School Nutrition. By implementing this meal service, it allows students/parents the opportunity to obtain meals for an extended time versus traveling each day to obtain meals. This plan also allows for less social exposure for all, as recommended by government and health officials. Each student will receive five breakfast meals and five lunch meals. Wednesday was determined to be the best distribution day due to the fact that this will allow for meal provisions throughout the weekend, while other agencies are not serving. Late afternoon pick up also allows working parents the opportunity to pick up meals with their children. Future plans regarding meal availability will be determined based on participation and product availability. It is our desire to offer the Multiple Day Meal Plan for as long as product availability will allow. We will continue to update information for the public each week as plans are confirmed. Thank you for your patience and cooperation while organized planning took place. We look forward to seeing the students on Wednesday, March 25th. God bless,“ commented Monika W. Griner, School Nutrition Director.
